Get to know your city by walking along the Secret Gardens of Sittard guided by our host Peer Boselie
The Buddy System Sittard-Geleen will present a very special walking tour, hosted by Peer Boselie (former Chief Archivist of Sittard-Geleen), during which you will discover Sittard’s secret gardens.
At first glance, Sittard-Geleen may seem like an industrial city to many people. Green spaces are often only associated with the villages surrounding the urban areas of Sittard and Geleen. But that's not the case!
Few people know that, in the past, Sittard had many green oases right in the heart of the city. Hidden oases with fascinating stories.
The 'Secret Gardens' working group, one of the working groups of the Vereniging Sittards Verleden (Association Sittard’s Past), connects, publishes, and shares stories about these gardens and other green structures.
Peer Boselie, the former Chief Archivist of Sittard-Geleen and an active member of The 'Secret Gardens' working group, will take you behind the scenes and show you how surprising and diverse the urban greenery is. He will present the gardens by combining the history of the greenery with stories. Stories of poets, singers, war and peace, religious diversity, in short: of love and sorrow. This creates a 'green story of the city'.
Departure is scheduled at 10:30 sharp from Jardin d’Isabelle (the garden opposite the courtyard of the Merici Hotel at the Kerkepad). The walking tour will take about 1 hour and 45 minutes (until 12:15).
